I've seen a lot of people say that they hate mainstream music and that people that like it are dumb.I used to be one of these idiots but I grew up and realised that liking popular music does not make you stupid.In fact,the music you listen to has almost nothing to do with your personality and opinions.Maybe there's a person somewhere in the world that has almost the same personality as you but has very different musical tastes.Judging people by their musical tastes is as pointless as judging them by their race,gender,sexuality,age,disability etc...
Unfortunately,most people don't understand that and will make fun of you if you like a genre/artist/song that they don't like and/or you don't like a genre/artist/song that they like.For exemple,some of my classmates say that I'm a druggie just because I like psychedelic rock and some of people online say the same thing but because I like dubstep.This is stupid -_-.

I used to be called a "mystery" (in a mocking way) by an older woman just because I used to listen to a song that she hated (I don't like the song anymore, but it sounded catchy when I first heard it). Actually, it was a remix one, and she judged it was "bad" just because it wasn't the original singer, neither the same video clip. But damn it, it was a REMIX ! If she hated it that much, she could just avoid it then and go listen to the original one, but it wasn't a reason to make fun of me.
